Dual-Viewpoint CME Catalog from the SECCHI/COR Telescopes

This is a dual-viewpoint Coronal Mass Ejection (CME) catalog based on visual identifications of events in the SECCHI/COR2 telescopes from both STEREO spacecraft. The catalog extends from March 2007 (when the synoptic program was established) to September 2014 (when contact with STEREO-B was lost). The catalog is continually updated and will eventually include COR1 information as part of a recent NASA HGI award. It is described in detail in Vourlidas et al. (2017).

For questions and updates please contact Dr. Angelos Vourlidas at Solar-Researchnull@jhuapl.edu.

Brief Description

The catalog is accessed via the month-year matrix below. The number of events in each month are in parentheses. Clicking on the month cell reveals the list of events for that month along with their morphological and kinematic parameters (if available). Each event has a COR2-A and -B entry which is filled with '-999's if the event was undetected in that telescope. The kinematic parameters are derived either automatically via the supervised algorithm CORSET (event ID ending in 'c') or manually (event Id ending in 'm'). Details on the algorithm and parameter extraction are given in Balmaceda et al. (2017). The MVC Catalog is unique in providing a morphological classification for each event and viewpoint. The classification criteria are discussed in Vourlidas et al. (2017). The links in each column provide further information and/or data (e.g. filename lists, height-time points, etc.)

Other COR2 CME Catalogs

There exist other SECCHI, and in particular COR2-based, CME catalogs. Some are based on automated detection algorithms and some are built manually. Below is a list with all the catalogs we are aware of along with some brief note. The list is subject to revision.

  • COR2 CME Catalog at the University of Göttingen (2007 – 2011). Manual. Contains list of 'best of' events appropriate for 3D reconstruction.
  • SEEDS COR2 CME Catalog at the George Mason University (2007 – present). Automated. Not dual-view detection ( COR2-A and B detections are made independently).
  • CACTus COR2 CME Catalog at the Naval Research Laboratory (2007 – present). Automated. Not dual view detection.
